The George & Dragon Bedford Reviews

we have been coming to the George and dragon for around 4 years quite regularly for lunch. We normally plump for the £5.99 deli meal including a drink and we were always very pleased with our choice and taste and presentation of the food served. However, over the last 4 -5 visits we were most disappointed with the quality and presentation of the food.
I usually had the pulled pork in a baguette which initially was very good. But lo and behold the last few visits have been appalling tasteless, baguette tough and chewy, salad just few leaves of something indescribable! Not to mention chips luke warm.
We did give them the benefit of doubt after the first bad one and even the second but am afraid we will not be going back!

I went for a late lunch with my girlfriend today. After trying the Gordon Arms, Three Cups and Castle who had all finished serving food, we plumped for the George & Dragon.

Greene King pubs never fill me with much optimism but we ordered a burger and chips each and took our table. After an hour waiting in a pub that wasn't busy, we asked where the food was and the waitress/bar lady told us it was just coming. Then other customers , who had arrived long after us, got served their food. After enquiring once again, we were told there had been a mix up and one chef had come to work late, the waitress offered us a complimentary drink each to which we said that we would prefer a reduction on the bill. After disappearing "to see the Manager", we were told that a 50% reduction on the food was being offered to which we agreed.

As if to take the Mick out of us one more time, she came back with a cash refund that was less than the 50% food bill! We showed her from the menu what it should have been to which she said "i'll just go and double-check"!! i said to her that the menu was here and what needed checking? She disappeared to "see the Manager" yet again (does he/she exist??) and returned with the missing refund, blaming "the Manager" for giving her the wrong amount!!

After all this, the food was bland, the chips under-cooked and the soggy complimentary bowl of onion rings were skant consolation.

What with the Greene KIng IPA being flat and tasteless, the whole experience was a disaster...at least the company was excellent!

I went in today to watch the rugby but there was no seating close by the TV. I thought I'd have some food anyway. I was waiting at the bar for service 1st and as the barman made his way over a couple came to the bar as well. When I asked to see the menu I was directed to one of the tables. I walked away from the bar to pick up a menu and on my way back to the bar a lady walked up and was waiting for service as wel. I looked though the menu to make a choice now of course the couple got served first. When I wanted to order I next was told to 'hold on' and the lady also got served before me. I was finally able to place my order and when I was asked for my table number I realised the couple had taken the table I wanted. I indicated to them that I had wanted to sit there and I also expressed surprise as every body was getting served except me or so it seemed. The barman then said to me 'there is no need to rude'! I said to him I didn't think I had been he said he thought I had! I was lost for words. I should have asked for my money back and walked out really but I didn't have the wit to do this. The scampi and chips were fine, there wasn't much of the mushy peas on the plate and the girl who served me was nice. The barman kept looking at me with disdain throughout my visit. I'm a resident of Castle Road but I will not be visiting again. Nor can I recommend this pub.

George & The Dragon is a community pub with heart and soul throughout the week, and an extra kickstart come the weekend.

Karaoke lands from 7 til 10pm on Thursday nights
Then we have resident djs playing all the club classics and current chart hits on Fridays and Satrudays til 2am, this is a venue not to miss.
Whether you're passing through for predrinks before a club night, or you want a night out that feels like home, you'll find your fix here.

With drinks deals, a beer garden with pool, tvs, surround sound and rave lights, ever corner turned is a suprise.

Capacity of 200 downstairs and 400 in the Function Room upstairs, which is up for hire at a handsome bargain.
